Our record-setting $12.5 Million GTD Venom ended last week and four-time WSOP bracelet winner Dominik âTexxassssâ Nitsche emerged as the champion in exciting fashion.
We wrote a tourney recap article last week and today we delve into Nitsche’s win in an exclusive interview. Weâre exploring the highlights and memorable moments of the largest win ($1,818,040) of his career which came in our biggest tourney ever, finishing with a record-breaking $12,612,500 prize pool.
How does it feel to win the Venom?Â
âObviously feeling amazing right now. Not too hungover anymore, finally! It almost doesnât feel real. I was playing the Venom from my hotel room in Monaco after I had made Day 2 in the very first flight.â
What does this win mean to you?Â
âThe Venom is one of those life-changing events. Like you can’t miss it as a pro. Even if you end up putting in multiple bullets every time. One day you might just win life-changing money, and that’s really rare these days. Online it almost never happens anymore. Even live, the number of events that have a bigger first prize are extremely limited.â
How did the Venom tournament fit into your poker schedule?
âThe scheduling worked perfectly for me as I was able to play Day 1a of EPT on Sunday and then was able to focus on the Venom Monday night. I ended up in Day 2 of the EPT main too. Day 3 of the Venom was somewhat rough for me as I was working on very little sleep given I also had to play Day 2 of EPT earlier the same day. I guess thankfully I got caught bluffing that one off quite early in the day, so I was able to get some rest.â
Did you play in any of the satellites or qualifiers offered by ACR Poker during the Venom?Â
âThe Venom is just very fun. And ACR was basically handing out tickets left and right to anyone who’d open their software to play tourneys. I have very little ambition to battle over sub 5% rois in 1ks + on the other side when I can make the same money in a lower timeframe playing Venom sats. So yea the satellite system is incredible and a bunch of my crew ended up winning four or more tickets.â
Can you share any memorable hands or moments from the final table?Â
âAs far as memorable hands go. I won AQ vs AK on Day 2. Then I remember being all in with A high on the river in a rather large pot after squeezing pre. On the final table, I think most of the hands werenât especially interesting. Memorable mostly for me hitting incredible cards.
One hand does stand out though where I had 63cc on A5324 with the backdoor flush completing. Itâs a very high pressure spot with a very unique dynamic. And the 4c being the absolute strangest card one can see.â
Can you tell us a little about your decision-making process during the final table?
âIn game, my thought process was that Iâd be betting around 50-100% on most rivers. However, with the straight being on board and AK having been quite solid, I figured that Iâd arrive at this river with infinite combos of naked Kc or Qc. Perhaps it was a bit too greedy and 100% pot wouldâve been the higher EV choice. Final tables are always very unique as ranges differ vastly from cEV simulations.â
Nitsche’s triumph in the $12.5 Million GTD Venom is a shining example of determination and strategy in the world of competitive poker. Congratulations ‘Texxassss’, on a tremendous victory that will be remembered for years to come.
