Mike Gorodinsky’s recovers at the WSOP to extend hot streak

The series didn’t get off to a good start, but Gorodinsky found a way to get on track

Mike Gorodinsky’s luck took a sour turn during the initial phase of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Despite giving it his all in the Dealers’ Choice with a hefty $10,000 buy-in and two Pot Limit Omaha events with $1,000 each, his efforts proved to be in vain. However, a glimmer of hope emerged when he turned his fortunes around in the $10K HORSE tournament.

After becoming overwhelmed with all that Las Vegas had to offer, Gorodinsky made a definitive choice to detach himself from it all when the $10,000 HORSE Championship kicked off. Only a few days later, he emerged triumphant, claiming first place and $422,747 in prize money, as well as his third prized WSOP bracelet. His victory in the HORSE competition provided him with the perfect opportunity to regain his focus and regain control over his poker career.

Gorodinsky’s fortunes took a turn for the better as Day 3 drew to a close. As Sunday night approached, victory seemed within his grasp. The last leg of the tournament witnessed rapid progress, with a staggering seven players dropping out in a mere five hours – many taken out by Gorodinsky.

On Day 4, Gorodinsky displayed remarkable strength from the onset, despite Brad Ruben securing three sizable pots by landing quad sixes in Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. However, Gorodinsky swiftly bridged the divide, reclaiming the momentum and systematically dismantling his opponents until he was the last player standing.

Gorodinsky has now accumulated three bracelets in the mixed-game discipline, beginning with a victory in the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo event in 2013 and another in the $50,000 Poker Players tournament in 2015.
