Jason Koon forced to exit Super High Roller after wife goes into labor

Koon’s first child was born just after he won his first WSOP bracelet two years ago

Day 1 of the $250,000 Super High Roller at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) ended with Jason Koon in the lead. However, unforeseen circumstances kept him from participating in Day 2 with the rest of the high rollers. As the show was set to continue, he had to bow out after he learned that his wife had gone into labor.

WSOP officials have stated that Koon’s investment will be completely refunded. This was the second time that WSOP and childbirth collided for Koon. He picked up his first WSOP bracelet two years ago, only weeks before his wife gave birth to their first child.

During a recent appearance on the Chad and Jesse Poker Show, he discussed not being able to participate in the main event of the WSOP due to the birth of his child. He called it a “bittersweet” moment, recognizing that he won’t be able to compete for a seat in the Main Event. However, at the same time, he’s going to be able to spend more time with his newly-expanded family.

37 players, consisting of notable names like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Alex Foxen, Koon and Main Event champions Koray Aldemir and Espen Jorstad, made it to Day 2 of the tournament. Only Kornuth was able to endure until the final table, ultimately finishing in fifth place. By the time the final heads-up battle was over, Chris Brewer had taken the bracelet and the top prize of $5.2 million. He defeated Artur Martirosyan to get there, breaking a dry spell that had seen him run into a series of bad beats.
