The tournament includes a wide variety of games to suit all kinds of players
Poker fans weary of watching and playing the same No-Limit Hold’em game will travel to Resorts World Las Vegas next week to play a variety of new games at the Mixed Game Festival VI. The five-day series celebrates several variations, such as Razzdugi, Big O, Drawmaha and several others.
The event was organized by Cardplayer Lifestyle publisher and former CardsChat podcast host Robbie Strazynski. The sixth Mixed Game Festival since 2021, this edition has much more meaning for Strazynski, who lives in Israel and had to organize this series while the war raged in the background.
“So, it’s going to be surreal to suddenly be away from home and my family, with the war still ongoing,” said Strazynski. “That said, I have so many friends in and coming to Las Vegas who I’ll get to hug and enjoy playing some great mixed game poker with; that’s going to be a big boost and will help me recharge my batteries. I’m really grateful for that.”
Strazynski says some of his most memorable games have been low-stakes mixed games with friends during the WSOP and that it’s challenging to get an abundance of people together for mixed games events, which are still relatively a niche not nearly as popular as Hold ’em and PLO. He gained several great sponsors who liked the idea of a mixed-game series and was able to organize it himself.
Strazynski thinks more tournament organizers are discovering the opportunity to fill a niche for poker fans looking for “something else” beyond the No-Limit Hold’em-dominated tournaments. While mixed games still attract fewer players than No-Limit Hold’em fields, he believes that “if you build it, they will come,” eventually.
The Mixed Game Festival VI runs from November 26-30 at Resorts World Las Vegas.
