Santhosh Suvarna destroys WSOP high-roller for $5.4 million

75 entries created an $18,675,000 prize pool in the massive event

Santhosh Suvarna secured his largest payday after taking down some of the world’s biggest high rollers in the 2024 World Series of Poker $250,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold ’em event for $5,415,152 and his second gold bracelet. The Indian businessman who began playing poker seven years ago increased his career earnings to more than $13.1 million with the win.

“I’m really so happy,” said Suvarna after the win. “My dream has come true. This is a very big tournament. I played a million-dollar buy-in tournament, but this had bigger numbers. The main thing is that this is WSOP.”

Suvarna’s last win was at the €50,000 buy-in high roller at the 2023 WSOP Europe for $689,000. That was just after he took home $1.7 million for finishing third in the 2023 Triton Monte Carlo main event.

A total of 75 entries created an $18,675,000 prize pool, with the top 12 finishers in the money. Jonathan Jaffe (12th), Phil Ivey (11th), and Adrian Mateos (10th) were the first to be eliminated under the bubble.

Sean Winter finished in ninth place for $550,878, increasing his career winnings to over $30 million. Mikita Badziakouski (8th for $629,407) was next to the rail, followed by Jeremy Ausmus (7th for $754,052) and Taylor von Kriegenbergh (6th for $945,219).

Charles Hook lost a race against Benjamin Tollerene (5th for $1,237,296), finishing just ahead of Matthias Eibinger (4th for $1,688,278), and Christopher Hunichen (3rd for $2,397,312).

Tollerene (2nd for $3,537,135) took a 10:1 advantage in heads-up play after earning a huge double-up. He soon pushed all-in with Q-D, 4-C vs. Suvarna’s 10-H, 7-C. However, Suvarna hit a ten on the river to secure the pot and the championship.
