NFL Hall of Famer scores in the WSOP

Richard Seymour is proving he can carry his own at the poker tables

Richard Seymour’s second venture is proving prosperous. Last year, the former NFL star who once played for the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders, was honored with an induction into the revered Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now, he’s finding success in the world of poker, as well, with a cash finish in the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

Seymour, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots, demonstrated his remarkable poker skills by securing an impressive 284th finish in the highly competitive event. This remarkable accomplishment placed him among the top 3% of players in the tournament. Seymour was rewarded with $50,900 for his success.

In an intense poker showdown, Seymour fearlessly relied on an Ace-Jack hand while his opponent, Chris Vitch, held a pair of 6s. However, fate turned against Seymour when Vitch managed to secure a set on the flop, effectively eliminating him from the game.

Seymour isn’t sitting around while he leads a life of retirement. His accomplishments in the arena of poker surpass all expectations, with a tally of 10 WSOP tournament victories. Amongst these wins, five were attained through fierce competition in Las Vegas, while the remaining five came through satellite tournaments.

The global aura of the Main Event enticed participants worldwide, shattering prior attendance figures. 10,043 players jumped into the competition, although the crowd is now considerably smaller. Juan Maceiras from Spain stands tall as the current chip leader, seated comfortably with an impressive 108 million chips. Adam Walton from the US is right beside him, protecting a stack of 75.4 million.
