Game of Gold has become a huge hit with poker players and fans
Game of Gold is a new poker reality show that’s becoming a hit with fans. The creative people at Poker After Dark have discovered something extraordinary that looks to be surpassing expectations.
The mix of modern fixation with reality TV is blended with poker in a Big Brother-like atmosphere. However, players must perform well at the table or be sent home.
New episodes are released on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with four shows already available. Sixteen players are participating in the twelve episodes that mix diverse poker variants and formats. Players will collect gold coins, with those surviving until the final episode redeeming them for big blinds before playing a tournament for a top prize of $456,000.
Team Hearts is made up of
David Williams, Andy Stacks, Lukas Robinson and Olga Iermolcheva, while Team Spades features Fedor Holz, Charlie Carrel, Johan Guilbert and Nikita Luther.
Team Clubs will partner Jason Koon, Daniel Negreanu, Kevin Martin and Michael Soyza together. The final group, Team Diamonds, has Josh Arieh, Maria Ho, Kyna England and Daniel “Jungleman” Cates.
Dusk Till Dawn poker club owner and high-stakes player Rob Yong was surprised by how well the show turned out after not knowing what to predict. Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Galfond thought there should be less poker and more personality so people can get to know the players better. He also mentioned that it’s great they’re getting paid to play instead of paying themselves, which is great for showing what’s possible in professional poker.
“There are lots of ways I could see shows like this working. Props to them for finally trying one and putting their money behind it. I’m sure we’ll see improvements and other iterations if it’s successful,” said Galfond.
