DNegs, Ivey fall in the WSOP $10K Dealers Choice Championship

Two poker greats can’t find Lady Luck at the WSOP felt

Eleven players survived to play Day 3 of Event #13: $10,000 Dealers Choice Championship at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Fans on social media were abuzz overnight as two of poker’s biggest personalities were potentially set to clash at the final table. However, the matchup wasn’t in the cards, as both Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu became the first players sent to the rail on the event’s final day.

Ivey was eighth in chips to start the day but lost a big chunk of his stack to Ryutaro Suzuki playing Limit 2-7 Triple Draw. He was then reduced to one big bet after losing a hand of Stud Hi-Lo 8 or better to Michael Martinelli.

Ivey pushed all-in during the same hand, with Martinelli sending him home and taking most of Max Kruse’s chips, who started the day as the short stack. Ivey secured a $27,041 payday after finishing in 11th place.

Negreanu started Day 3 with fewer chips than Ivey but managed to outlast his friend and rival after almost losing his stack in the same hand Ivey was eliminated. Kruse doubled up against Negreanu in that hand before the ten players remaining went to break.

Negreanu had one 5,000-unit chip remaining after mucking on the river against Martinelli in a Limit Omaha High pot before losing that last chip against him in Stud Hi-Lo Regular. Negreanu earned his best cash of the series of $27,041 for finishing 10th.

Both players are expected to enter another high-stakes tournament, the $10,000 Limit Hold ’em Championship, which begins today.
