The tournament series began this week at the Palm Beach Kennel Club
The Moneymaker Tour is now underway at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, with 27 events over 13 days from October 25 through November 6 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Over $500,000 in prize guarantees are up for grabs, with buy-ins from $86 to $1500. The $86 level is to celebrate Chris Moneymaker’s satellite win that led to his 2003 WSOP Main Event championship.
The PBKC Poker Room hosted the inaugural Moneymaker Tour series in May, which drew 3,145 entries and awarded over 1.4 million in prizes. Moneymaker entered several tournaments and was also honored on the 20th anniversary of his historic win. Gene Calden, a 100-year-old World War II veteran, won event #5 for $5,160 after being flown to Las Vegas by Moneymaker for the WSOP. Instead of accepting the WSOP honor, Moneymaker asked Calden to begin the event with “Shuffle and Deal!”
The Main Event drew 262 entries, with Mike Rossi taking the title after qualifying through a $90 satellite on ACR Poker. Rossi’s victory came 20 years to the date of Moneymaker’s momentous WSOP Main Event win, taking home the top prize of $134,265.
The first event at the Moneymaker Tour is the $500,000 guaranteed $500 buy-in Mystery Bounty running from October 25-29. The Main Event will have $300,000 in guaranteed prizes with a $1500 buy-in and will run from November 2-6.
The Moneymaker Tour began in 2003 and was founded by WSOP champion and international poker ambassador Chris Moneymaker and Tony Burns, who’s the Executive Manager for the Moneymaker Tour.
