The victim received non-life-threatening injuries during the assault
An apparent attempted robbery at a Texas Card House near Houston occurred early Thursday morning, creating a frightening and near-fatal situation. According to sources, the incident resulted in the shooting of a security guard at the poker room’s location in Spring, Texas, on Spring Cypress Road. The victim is stable, and his injuries are not life-threatening.
The initial report was made by Click2Houston.com, including comments made by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. According to investigators, the incident happened at about 6 am, as several armed suspects intended to rob the poker room.
The security guard working at the time hasn’t been identified, but he apparently attempted to confront the criminals when a gun battle broke out. The guard was shot several times moments later but is expected to make a full recovery. No other staff members or poker players in the card room were injured in the shooting.
Police are investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made since the suspects fled the area. According to various sources at the Texas poker room, they are “pretty sure” it was a robbery attempt, as the four suspects tried to ambush the security guard before entering the club but never made it inside.
The guard disarmed one of the gunmen, resulting in the other robbers opening fire. An investigation is underway, and sources within the cardroom suspect it could be the same group that’s attempted to rob other cardrooms in the area.
Texas Card House owns six poker club locations throughout the state, including Austin and Dallas. The location in Spring is one of two poker rooms that TCH operates in the Houston area. The identity of the suspects is unknown, and the armed robbers remain at large.
