Almost 2,800 entries had King’s Resort filled to the brim
The NLHE Colossus event at the World Series of Poker Europe attracted a massive field, with 2,799 players competing for a shot at a WSOP bracelet. Czech player Michal Schuh emerged victorious, securing €171,350 (US$190,000) and achieving a lifelong dream of winning the coveted gold bracelet. The event, hosted at King’s Resort in the Czech Republic, saw Schuh triumph over a tough field, including Dutchman Erik van Hulst, who finished second and earned €117,350 (US$130,000), his largest-ever live poker cash.
Schuh, a former professional poker player who now plays mostly for fun, fought through a series of intense battles, particularly during the heads-up stage with van Hulst. The tournament’s final day began with 16 remaining players, each vying for a share of the €1.5 million (US$1.66 million) prize pool. Among the finalists was Georgios Tsouloftas, who had entered Day 2 as the chip leader and eventually finished third, collecting €88,350 (US$98,000).
The event’s action heated up as players fought for both cash and tickets to the WSOP Europe Main Event. Early eliminations included Zoltan Vrancsik and Dohang Na, who were both sent packing despite their strong starts. Notably, Andrea Ricci was knocked out right before the final table, as Tsouloftas capitalized on a strong call to increase his chip stack.
The final table saw Schuh steadily climb the ranks, eliminating several players, including Tomas Krivsky and Vito Branciforte. The heads-up duel with van Hulst was filled with twists, but Schuh eventually prevailed after calling van Hulst’s final all-in with ace-jack and flopping trip aces to win the tournament.
Schuh’s victory, especially on home soil, marks a significant achievement in his poker career and adds a WSOP bracelet to his collection.
