We’re only one game into the NFL season and we’ve already had an upset! The Detroit Lions went into Kansas City last night and shocked (21-20) the defending champs as 4-point underdogs.
The NFL will resume this Sunday with 14 games on the docket (you can see the opening odds here). We are also doing a Pick of the Week article and we’ve decided to focus on the Monday night game with Buffalo (+2.5) at the NY Jets. The total is 45.5 points at the ACR Poker sportsbook.
The Jets were the darling of the offseason after acquiring quarterback Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay. Expectations shot through the roof immediately as many envisioned a Tom Brady and Tampa Bay situation which resulted in a Super Bowl title in their first season together.
The Super Bowl betting odds went through the roof as well as the Jets were +1150 back in April when the trade was imminent. The team is now at +1585 as their flaws started to get analyzed more, including a questionable offensive line.
Buffalo has been one of the NFL’s best teams the last three years, but has fallen short in the playoffs, losing twice at Kansas City and then last year at home to Cincinnati. The team was majorly affected last season by safety Damar Hamlin’s on-field cardiac arrest in Week 17, which they never seemed to recover from.
Quarterback Josh Allen returns the league’s second-ranked offense in yards, but this is also an underrated defense that was ranked 6th last year. They are even the current Super Bowl favorite (+735) after the Chiefs defeat.
I think Rodgers will play good, but not great, in his first game in a Jets uniform. And that this Bills team will show the world who’s the real boss of the AFC East.
